One of Australia's biggest disc golf tournaments of 2016 will be held at Mundaring DiscGolfPark at the Mundaring Sporting Club on Coolgardie St on January 30th ‐ 31st. A field of Perth's top disc golfers will compete for the DUDE Pro title on the challenging course in the Perth Hills.

The A-tier Australian Disc Golf Tour event will take place over two days on the world‐class Mundaring DiscGolfPark, a purpose‐built disc golf course designed and installed by DiscGolfPark Australia, a local company committed to growing the sport in the country.

This will be the second time the event has been hosted by the Mundaring Disc Golf Club at their local course at the Mundaring Sporting Club. The format will see player’s complete two rounds of the 18-hole championship layout on Saturday January 30, with the 3rd round of 18 holes on the Sunday morning. The top four players in Men's Open division will then fight it out over another nine holes to determine the winner.

DUDE will be the major sponsor of this consecutive event in Mundaring. DUDE is a local West Australian owned company designing sport specific apparel for disc golfers - the first of kind worldwide. DUDE's clothing range includes shorts with special towel attachments, jackets with disc pockets and shirts made from tech material for enhanced motion and breathability. The company will be officially launching their brand in to the US and Europe this year, with their recent selection as an official merchandiser for the first ever Disc Golf World Tour.

On the back of his recent win at the Australian Championships in Tasmania, the DUDE Pro defending champion Chris Finn is favourite to take out the 2016 title. However he will be facing tough competition against other highly ranked players including Dave Bandy, Jordan Wheeler and Andrew Ferguson.

The event takes place on at the Mundaring Sporting Club located at 665 Coolgardie St, Mundaring on Saturday January 30th 9am-3pm and Sunday 31st 9am-3pm. Spectating is free and everyone is welcomed to join the gallery and see the action. Best viewing is on Sunday from 12noon, when the top four players compete in the final.

Despite the tournament name, players of all age and skill levels are invited to play.  If you are interested in competing, please head over to the registration page to sign up.

Disc golf is one of the best fitness sports, and it's very easy to learn. It’s a healthy sporting activity that people of all age groups can play. If you like to have fun, then you should play disc golf. Let's take a step further by checking out “disc golf then” (its inception) and the new growth and development. Since its inception in the 1960s in Oak Grove Park, California where the pole-hole course was established, it has continued to expand all over the world.  It’s now considered one of the fastest growing sports.

THE GROWTH

As of November 2015, nearly eighty thousand players have registered with the Professional Association(PDGA). Disc golf is now played in all 50 States in America and over 40 countries. The tоurnаmеntѕ аrе grоwing lаrgеr аѕ mаjоr ѕроnѕоrѕ nоw rесоgnizе thе health benefits оf the ѕроrt for self-esteem, tеаm building, сhildhооd оbеѕitу, and other рhуѕiсаl, mеntаl and еmоtiоnаl bеnеfitѕ.

Today, disc golf is referred to as one of the fastest growing sports in the world because of its popularity and the number of courses being installed. Diѕс gоlf is experiencing a tremendous growth, аnd аt this роint it iѕ an еnginе thаt will nоt ѕtор. THE HEALTH BENEFITS

While it's a far cry from running all around and getting exhausted, playing disc golf has amazing health benefits.

  • When navigating the course:

Disc golf is played over a large area of terrain.  Often the courses can be hilly or located in wooded areas. Players burn a lot of calories walking around from hole to hole. Looking around for your disc seem to be a great exercise, and walking around the course alone provides a great workout.  When combined with the effort required to throw the disc, it gets even better. At the end of the session, you'll feel light and much better.

  • When you throw the disc:

You might think that it does not require any serious force to throw a light weight disc into the air, but there's more to it. Someone who weighs up to one hundred kilograms will burn almost six hundred calories in two hours, just by throwing a disc around.  When you put all these together, that is, the walking around and throwing the disc involved in playing a round of disc golf, then you're most likely to burn over eight hundred calories in the process. The recommended number of calories for men is about two thousand five hundred per day, while for women it’s two thousand. In short, you can burn off a huge chunk of your calorie intake when you play disc golf for a couple of hours.

  • A inexpensive way to keep fit:

Disc golf is an inexpensive sport. You'll only need to purchase one golf disc, and that's the only piece of specialized equipment you need. There won't be any other need for any other special equipment, or even training before you start playing. Just find your nearest course and get started, it's that simple.

  • Building an appreciation of nature:

The course locations will require you to move around bushes, trees, hills etc. It makes you experience nature in a way that you will appreciate, all whilst having fun.

  • It’s a positive stress reliever:

Heavy use of technology alone increases our stress levels.  Disc golf provides a healthy outlet for reducing stress and working out those kinks in the arms, shoulders and neck.  Being one with nature soothes the soul.

  • Builds your confidence:

When you play well, you'll get encouraged to keep practicing, and you'll gain the confidence to play on as you can see improvement quickly. And I’m sure you understand the importance of being happy, it keeps everything in you alive.

  • Improved muscular strength and endurance:

With disc golf, you can improve your joint flexibility and range of motion, a stronger heart. Disc golf improves your muscular strength and endurance which in turn strengthens your tendons and ligaments. With this, your blood pressure and balance are under control as well.

Even with a disease like diabetes you can still give disc golf a try. It offers tremendous benefits to people with high blood sugar:

  • The sport improves insulin resistance and reduces blood sugar.
  • Aerobic exercise like disc golf causes weight loss.
  • It reduces the risk of cancer, stroke and heart disease.

There's more to what playing disc golf can offer. It is improving, expanding and creating new golf courses in parks and recreational centers across the world for everyone to play.  Professional design is imperative for the success of the course.  The only company in Australasia is DiscGolfPark Australia, who are located in Perth, Western Australia.  DiscGolfPark Australia designs courses in Sydney, Melbourne, Hobart, Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra and Darwin. So why not give disc golf a try? You can purchase all your required disc golf discs from the The Frisbee Shop.

This year's tourney will be played at the Drysdale Reserve, in the Geelong suburb of Drysdale. This course is often referred to as the best tournament layout in Australia, and it was the host of the 2012 Australian Disc Golf Championships.

2014 DUDE Pro - Largest ADG A-Tier in Perth since 2010 ADGC

February 1st was a day of first. The first DUDE Pro, which was the first A-tier for the 2014 ADG tour teed off on this day. Competitors who played were delighted to see that 18 baskets had been permanently installed on the grounds of the Mundaring Golf Course, making this the first 18-hole permanent disc golf course in Perth.

After a long, two year process working with the Mundaring Sporting Club, DiscGolfPark were finally given formal approval to install a permanent 18-hole course with two sets of tees late in 2013. Approval of the course design was given just two weeks before the DUDE Pro, and the team from DGP went into overdrive getting the baskets in the ground and the course ready in time for the tournament. A large part of the tree cutting, weed whacking, hole digging, and heavy lifting was done practically around the clock by Ryan Rintala. Ryan had to head back to the States the day after the tournament, and he put in a massive effort to see the course completed and share the course with local disc golfers.

The tournament began with a casual doubles day on Friday January 31st. Those able to take the afternoon off braved the Perth sun to compete in doubles and get some practice in before the nitty gritty competition began on Saturday. The format for the doubles tournament was best shot doubles, and the team of Chris Finn and Michael Wombell took the title. Chris even capped off the round by hitting the chastity belt on hole 18 from nearly 100m, just missing an eagle on the monstrous 330m Par 5.

The Frisbee Shop sponsors DUDE Pro

The Frisbee Shop is proud to sponsor the inaugural DUDE Pro Disc Golf Tournament. The DUDE Pro will be taking place from January 31st to February 2nd at the Mundaring Golf Course. This will be the first A-tier of the 2014 Australian Disc Golf Tour. An optional doubles tournament will be played on the Friday that will give players the chance to practice the course before the serious competition takes place on Saturday and Sunday.

Don’t be fooled by the name of the tournament. Although the competition will be fierce among the professionals, there will also be divisions for players of all skill levels from beginners to pros.

As we’ve previously announced, final approval for a permanent disc golf course in Mundaring (alongside the golf course) has been granted. Disc Golf Park has now designed a challenging 18-hole course with both professional and novice tees. The DUDE Pro will present a brilliant opportunity to tournament test the future permanent course layout. Recreational (beginner) players will play from the shorter novice tees (Par 58), all other divisions will play from the pro tees (Par 68, 3109 m).

The entry fee for the tournament will be $70 for Open (Pro) and $50 for all other divisions. In addition to 54 holes of disc golf, players will also receive lunch on both days and a player pack that will include a disc that most players have not thrown yet. There is also a one day option for players who cannot play both days – one day entry is $35 and includes lunch but does not include a player pack.

First 18 hole disc golf course for Perth Western Australia!

DiscGolfPark has announced that final approval has been given for the installation of a brand new, permanent 18-hole disc golf course in Mundaring. Mundaring is located in the Perth hills approximately 30 minutes from the Perth CBD and about 25 minutes from the Perth International Airport. We are very excited that a permanent course is going in the ground at the site of the 2015 Aussie Open.

The Mundaring DiscGolfPark will be built on the expansive, rolling grounds of the Mundaring Golf Course. The disc golf course will be located alongside the ball golf course which is greatly underutilised. The disc golf course will feature 18 Innova DisCatcher Pro baskets, and each hole will feature beginner and advanced tees. This will allow for players of all skill levels to play and enjoy the course, and also allow for 36 unique holes to be played.

DiscGolfPark Australia will be designing the course in early 2014, with the goal of having baskets in the ground by March 2014. While some holes from the temporary Mundaring course may be maintained, we now have the opportunity to do a bit more with the area so many holes are likely to change for the permanent layout.

The Mundaring DiscGolfPark, like the golf course, will fall under the banner of the Mundaring Sporting Club. This will provide the disc golf course with the best facilities in Australia, including toilets and showers, club rooms, bar, catering facilities, and the potential for a disc golf pro shop on site. The disc golf course will be open to the public on a pay to play basis which can be paid via an honour box or electronic transfer.

This project is being financed by DiscGolfPark Australia with the assistance of a very generous donation from the team at DiscGolfPark in Europe. DiscGolfPark is looking for sponsors to fund the tee signs and info board that will provide information and safe play throughout the course. If your business would like to sponsor a sign please contact DiscGolfPark at [email protected] or by phoning (08) 9303 2415.
